Give Rural West Virginia a Place to Turn

In rural West Virginia, getting help is not always as simple as knowing where to ask.

Services can be counties away. Transportation is limited. Internet access can be unreliable. And when someone is facing homelessness, housing instability, hunger, poverty, recovery, or another crisis, navigating a complicated system can feel impossible.

BARE has seen those gaps firsthand.

Through community resource fairs and outreach across West Virginia, we have brought food, hygiene supplies, housing assistance, recovery resources, health services, identification assistance, and other support directly to the people who need it. More than 500 people have already been served through these events, and some have gone directly from a resource fair toward housing.

But a resource fair lasts a day.

The BARE Community HUB is about building something that lasts.

BARE has taken on a long-empty former church in Cowen, West Virginia and is transforming it into a permanent, year-round community resource center. Our team has been doing the work ourselves, stripping away the old, painting, rebuilding, repairing, and turning a shuttered building into a place the community can depend on.

When the doors open, the Community HUB will provide a permanent home for meals, hygiene supplies, essential items, resource navigation, community connections, and hands-on support for people who may have nowhere else to turn.

This is more than a building.

It is a place where someone can walk through the door and find a real person ready to listen. A place where a family can get basic necessities without having to travel to another county. A place where someone struggling can get help finding the right resource instead of being handed another phone number. A place where BARE can continue showing up, not just during an event or emergency, but every day.

We have the building.

We are doing the work.

Now we need your help to open the doors.

Your donation will help us complete the Community HUB, purchase the supplies and equipment needed to operate it, stock essential items for the people we serve, and build a sustainable resource that rural West Virginia can count on.

Whether you give $10, $25, $100, or more, you are helping turn an empty building into something this community desperately needs: a permanent place to turn when help feels out of reach.

Help us finish the BARE Community HUB and build something permanent in West Virginia.

Because showing up matters. Staying matters even more.
